Happy New Year!!
I think this must be the most awaited calendar flip ever anticipated by such a large group of people. Hopefully, everyone is safe and healthy this day. I’m sure some of you have made resolutions, decorations are coming down, homes are being cleaned, and a new season is upon us.
I personally love the decorations, glitz, and merry making of the holidays. Perhaps just as much, I love the cleanup, the refresh, and the preparation for something new. Today we packed everything away and burned the leaves from fall along with our tree.
Tonight we ended all of our hard work with takeout Chinese food. It felt lavishly indulgent and a little like being home with family. I have started so many New Years on a strict diet, planning to completely revamp my relationship with food as easily as flipping the calendar. I’ve managed to hold on until I reached my goals and sometimes hold longer than I thought feasible. However, inevitably my willpower would fall apart and I’d return to binge behavior. It was this discouraging roller coaster that forced me to revamp my relationship with my body and diet.
Now, I start the New Year focusing on my blessings, my gratitude that we’ve made it to another year and that we love each other. I don’t want my children to learn body obsession or shame surrounding food. I want to teach them to love and nourish their bodies, to treat themselves with value and care.
I hope that as today closes and this year stretches ahead, your filled with anticipation for the reality of your dreams.
Check out my post tomorrow, where I’ll cover the ways to teach yourself to love healthy foods, exercise, and drinking water.
